Album Notes

Strawberries and Other Tasty Tunes is an album for little kids, bigger kids and their parents and grandparents.

The songs are positive, singable, educational and fun. They respect all of their listeners. All songs have been child tested!

Strawberries – A song that is simple, compelling and an earworm. Add anyone’s name to the song. It’s a great one to sing without accompaniment. I’ve tested it on children ranging in ages of two to eight. They all sing it endlessly with and without the prompt of, “who else is picking strawberries?” I have heard a five minute rendition that included the family dog.

Cows – When I sang this for a bunch of kids, they went nuts when I mentioned yogurt. Apparently children eat a lot of yogurt.

Broccoli – I mean someone had to write it. This song is both an encouragement to eat this unjustly disparaged veggie and will encourage kids to think of broccoli as not only fun to sing about but also to eat.

No Bananas – Try to say peaches, pears, papayas, pineapples five times fast. Happiness can be found right in your own backyard.

You Got To Be Patient – This song is for everyone, not just for children. The brilliant soprano sax solo is performed by New Orleans own Steve Allen.

Ocelots – Other than drinking hot chocolate, everything in the song is factual and there are even some words that kids might add to their vocabularies.

Chase ‘Em Out – This is an alphabet song. It might not supplant the more traditional abc song but it does provide some new musical relief from it and an alternative learning tool.

Weyou – Yes, I didn’t include Pluto, but all the other planets and other celestial bodies are there along with a love story of sorts. It’s fun and educational.

Mayflies – They may be annoying… all they think about is love.

Fishy Fishy Fish – teaches colors. The, ‘blub, blub, blub’ chorus is one that the kids like to repeat.

Watermelon – Yum yum yum yum easy and fun to sing.

Rule Number One – My then three and a half year old grand- daughter was in the back of the car whining while I was talking with my son. He said to her, “What’s the number one rule?” she replied, “No whining”. This song might be more for the parents than the kids but my grand-daughter knows and sings the chorus.

I Want a Bunny Rabbit – There is a great folk tradition of songs like Mocking Bird. They all end with love being the most important thing there is.

This album is dedicated to my wife Eleanor and our grandchildren, Addy, Arlo, Charlie, Jesse and Sammy – They are all Schubiedoobies.
